Lesley Perk Workshop Review

Everyone was looking forward to 2 days of exploration and discovery, and as you can see no one wasted any time and it was all go go go.

 

The first day was devoted to liquid textured backgrounds as used in Lesley's painting below.

Paint was mixed, water was sprayed and clingwrap/plastic sheet applied and they all went outside in the sun to dry.

While the panels were drying, Lelsey demonstrated her technique for painting a graduated sky in acrylic using pre-mixed colours.

Then it was our turn to start on the sunsets. Now I have to say for a room full of women who all love a chat, the silence was deafening, just the swishing of brushes!

Eventually the background panels were dry enough to take off the wrapping and the challenge began to use the serindipity that had appeared.

Here are some of the creations using the liquid texture backgrounds, and the graduated sky and sunset paintings.

Some of the participants were beginners, some had never worked with acrylics, but all agreed that it was a great workshop and cannot thank Lesley enough for sharing these techniques.

Workshop - Mosaics

At this workshop, Alice will teach the art of mosaics and participants will produce at least one small piece which they have designed themselves.

 The workshop will be held Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th June 2014 from 9.30am to 4.00pm  at the Godfrey Wilson Hall, Milden Street Gin Gin

Acrylic Workshop with Lesley Perk

"Past Treasures" Exhibition

Past Treasures by Sandra McEwan

Award winning photographer Sandra McEwan came from New Zealand in 1998 and completely fell in love with Australia's natural beauty.

She is inspired by the animal life, the bush and the history of her newly adopted country. Her particular area of interest is the Granite Belt, where she has had the privilege of being able to photograph such historical icons as Pikedale Station, which was taken up in the 1840's.

Her 'Treasures Past' exhibition is a collection of photos from around the Granite Belt and also from other areas of Queensland.

The exhibition runs from Tuesday 3rd June to Saturday 28th June.

"SuzArt Live"

Art has been a way of sharing the beauty we see around us every day for centuries. This exhibition gives a small window into the experiences and places this artist has been privileged to view and wishes to share with you, the viewer, especially as many of these are private places not available to the general public.

"Art Daze 2014"

The theme for this year's exhibition is 'water'and each artist has endeavoured to make a statement about water in one or more of its many different forms. The Gin Gin Art Group is made up of a group of local art enthusiasts who meet on a regular basis to share their love of art and enjoy each other's company. The aim of the art society is to promote the visual arts and to invite members of the local community to come along and get in touch with their creative side. There are lessons, workshops and social days held throughout the year where emerging artists can develop their hidden talents and discover the satisfaction of expressing themselves through the many different mediums available. Our annual mambers' exhibition in the Gin Gin Regional Courthouse Gallery is our chance to show the community what we have been working on throughout the year and to celebrate our creativ journey. Several of the artists represented in this exhibition are quite new to our group and have been mentored to the exciting stage of having their work on show for the very first time. I commend each member who has contributed to 'Art Daze 2014' it is a tribute to your talent and hard work. As you the viewer, cast your eye over this display please feel free to ask questions about any of the works and about our activities and if you would like to join our group you will be made most welcome. Our sincere thanks go to Marsha and her team of volunteers who prepare the gallery and install each exhibition. "Colour My Country"

This exhibition is about color, design and landscape. The theme of the project is a variety of Australian landscapes inspired by Dorathea MacKellar’s poem “My Country” and images I have collected while traveling around the Country. The use of dots and lines in some of the paintings is to add to the aesthetic and to hint at the way the art and culture of our indigenous Australians is an integral part of this beautiful land of ours. I love the vastness, remoteness and the amazing scope and richness of the colours ranging from the brilliant blues and greens of the oceans to the deep reds of the interior and the browns and ochres of the Channel Country. The patterns found in the landforms and on the ground have a randomness about them which really appeals to me and the way I like to express myself in my art. Over the past 10 years, the focus of my artwork has been on developing an individual style which reflects my own thoughts and feelings towards the world around me. Lesley Perk
