Pastel Seascape Workshop

with Tricia Taylor
We will be playing with different water effects and doing a coastline that focuses on cresting waves and the shoreline to wet sand. Colour mixing theory and application techniques will also be one of the themes of the day.
It will be information packed but focused on having fun as play with pastels.

Materials List:
PASTELS –
whatever you have. A standard set of 40-60. Would be a
minimum. Obviously we will be using a lot of blues so a good range from French Ultra Marine to cerulean and through to turquoise in various tones will be handy. Sand will be soft terracotta oranges through to pinks and violets. So variety will be great.

Paper: Artspectrum colourfix paper Terracotta
Kneadable eraser
Old paint brush
Apron
Disposable gloves (optional)
Willow charcoal.
Padded board and bulldog clips to hold paper. ( just a foam core board will do but back it with 4-5 layers of butchers paper and it will make it softer to paint on)
Easel.
Soft drop mat for under the easel to prevent pastels breaking if dropped.

Reference Material. - We will work from your reference. (I will have some available you can work from if you do not have a photo of your own.)

"Colours - Art In Fabric"

Robyn & Elizabeth Clout, a mother/daughter artistic team show their unique traditional and non-traditional style quilts in a textile exhibition during October 2014.

Robyn has always enjoyed sewing from her childhood.  She would progress from making dolls clothes, to later sewing her clothes and then her children's clothes.  She became interested in traditional quilt making 10 years ago, when she started sewing traditional style quilts using patterns.  It wasn't until 2011 that she started thinking about quilts as an art form.  He style of quilt making changed after attending a Nancy Crow course, and this opened up a way of expressing how she sees colours, shapes and design in creating her own quilts.  Robyn says, "It's the start of my development as an artist, and I am looking forward to the journey I have commenced."
Elizabeth has been working in textiles since 2011 when her mother introduced her to quilting in New Zealand at a Nancy Crow workshop.  This led to finding inspiration with the Elements and Principles of Art.  Her artistic background is in ceramics and so she has found it interesting to use a different media.  Elizabeth says, "My quilting is non-traditional and I do not intend to pick up a pattern (something I have never used).  I like the challenge of 'painting with fabric' a technique that I wish to explore more."

Workshop Weekend at Hervey Bay

Kreative Koncepts are offering a 2 day workshop with award winning artists

Chris Postle

This workshop allows students to create an artwork based on the artist's own inspiration for the natural world. Using a provided reference, students will learn to develop a looser style of painting with Impressionist approach. This will involve exploring different painting techniques playing with colour, texture and design.

Craig Ninnes
This workshop encourages students to try a contemporary approach to painting using fragmentation. This style of painting will help students understand the equal importance of subject and background. Appropriating a provided image, students will have fun experimenting with different brush techniques as they work with contrast and form.

WHEN: 20th and 21st September
WHERE: Kreative Koncepts - shop 1/31 Main Street, Pialba
